On April 10, 2007 the Algonquin to Adirondack Conservation Association [A2A]held a workshop in Toledo Ontario [docs can be downloaded here] titled "Farming for Electricity & Ethanol" a workshop on sustainability for the family farm.

To say that biogas technologies are gaining momentum may be an understatement - who wouldn't be interested in generating energy from 'throw-aways' - never mind the environmental benefits like greenhouse gas mitigation, pathogen elimination, etc.

Considering the many different things we throw away [manures from livestock operations, residuals from the food industry like cereal husks, leftovers and 'spoils' from the beverage and bakery industry, etc., etc., etc.], about 60 percent of which is organic and could be processed to energy, fertilizer and sequestered carbon reducing the carbon dioxide [CO2] in the atmosphere; it stands to reason that there should be optimum technologies for each one of these things we 'throw away'. - to that end we would like to invite technology suppliers to provide us with designs 'tailored' for specific waste streams for publication - you may submit from any geographic location but one condition does apply - source and history of the designs has to be made available upon request. - looking forward to submissions

This year's Farming for the Future held at TRENT University in Peterborough, Ontario concluded successfully. The conference was well attended including professionals and participants alike from multiple countries.

Registered participants will receive copies of conference proceedings, while people who could not attend will be able to obtain copies towards the end of October through the association, once published.
