Waste-Based Energy Feasibility Study
Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Ontario - Earth Tech Canada Inc., 105 Commerce Valley Dr. W, Markham, On L3T 7W3
& Kinectrics Inc., 800 Kipling Ave, Toronto, ON M8Z 6C4 (Project: 55484)
Sept 2003

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent, in consultation with representatives from the agricultural and academic sectors, determined that the feasibility of generating alternative "green"energy from the processing of an organic-based feedstock using anaerobic digestion (AD) Technology should be investigated.
In order to determine the feasibility of anaerobic digestion as an alternative management option for organic wastes generated within the Municipality, the following factors were considered:
- The general viability of anaerobic digestion technologies.
- The location and characteristics of available organic waste streams.
- Energy generation potential
- By-product (ie compost and liquid fertilizer) management options.
- Net revenue (ie revenue minus capital operating costs)
The subject study has established a basis upon which the Municipality, in cooperation with Chatham Hydro and Ridgetown College can understake the more detailed analyses necessary to complete the business planning for "the first" anaerobic digestion facility in Chatham-Kent
